Diesel Fuel Leak - Route 113 Southbound
Sunday, June 29, 2008

At 1714 hours, Fire/EMS units were dispatched to Route 113 southbound between Deer Park Drive and North Main Street. Worcester Central advised responding units that a tractor-trailer traveling southbound ruptured both saddle tanks and believed to have an active leak of approximately 150 gallons of diesel fuel. First Assistant Chief Derrick Simpson established command and requested a response from the Worcester County Hazmat team. Fire Police had southbound traffic diverted while crews worked to contain the leak using absorbent and damming materials. State Highway Administration was requested with a load of sand to help with absorbing some of the fuel. After operating on the scene for 10 minutes, the Worcester County Hazmat team was placed in service. Command held units on the scene until the leak was contained. Units were placed in service shortly after the leak was contained.
